Goodbye holidays, hello ski season! Today I’ve got the inside scoop on three different ski paradises for your ultimate winter getaway: Sun Valley, Idaho; Vail, Colorado; and St. Moritz, Switzerland. Each offers a unique experience, from the laid-back vibes of Sun Valley to the opulence of Vail and the iconic Swiss Alps adventure in St. Moritz.

Having been to each of these three destinations personally, I’m super excited to share these with you. Along with a few lodging, dining and shopping recommendations, I’ve even got some pricing options for peak ski season (Feb 23 – March 3), which we’re booking now:
1. Sun Valley, Idaho – California Chill in the Heart of the Rockies
Having just visited for the first time, I fell head over heels in love with this place and plan to return asap! Nestled in the Rockies, Sun Valley, Idaho embodies a chill state of mind with a laid-back Californian vibe – perfect for those seeking a more casual ski experience. Known as the birthplace of the chairlift, Sun Valley offers two stunning mountains to explore. The local village, Ketchum, is filled with excellent dining and shopping options. I loved Maude’s Coffee and Clothing for coffee, Grumpy’s for burgers and beer, The Village Station for great Italian (even a celebrity sighting), and The Chocolate Foundry for mulled wine and affogatos to sip on while shopping for ski clothes.
Logistics and Pricing:
Flight: $594
Sun Valley Lodge: $621 per night
Village Condos: Starting at $519 per night
Lift Tickets: $233 per day
Sun Valley Airport is conveniently located just 15 minutes away, providing easy access to the slopes. With a range of accommodation options, including family-friendly condos, Sun Valley caters to various preferences and budgets. The Sun Valley Lodge is your true high-end lodge, with a buzzing lobby bar (live music at night makes it the place to be!) and an ice rink out back.
2. Vail, Colorado – Luxury on Colorado’s Highest Peak
We have made lots of great memories in this small village at the foot of Mount Vail, Colorado’s largest mountain. Synonymous with luxury and a haven for anyone seeking a luxury ski experience, the vast ski terrain and picturesque setting make it the perfect place for anyone who loves winter sports. Vail is also known for iconic cultural events (film festivals, symphonies, art), celebrity sightings, and amazing food and nightlife. Some personal favorite hot spots are Root & Flower, The Fitz, The Remedy Bar, and Altitude.
Logistics and Pricing:
Flight to Vail: $659
Lodging: Various options
Lift Tickets: $269 per day
The convenience of flying directly into Vail can come at a cost, but it’s less taxing than adding shuttles or rental cars if arriving in Denver. The abundance of lodging options, from five-star hotels to cozy condos, offers a range of choices for every kind of traveler and group. While prices may run higher than some destinations, the sheer variety of accommodations and Vail’s sophisticated atmosphere make it a worthwhile investment.
3. St. Moritz, Switzerland – Swiss Alps Splendor and Luxury
One of the most incredible and memorable ski vacations I’ve ever experienced, St. Moritz is the epitome of alpine luxury and a true dream vacation. Breathtaking scenery, Swiss architecture, mountain charm, amazing shopping and dining combined with world-class skiing at Corviglia Mountain make this a top-tier destination. You will find great drinks and dining right there in the Kempinski St. Moritz, while in the village there are cozy outdoor Glühwein bars for mulled wine, luxury designer shops and plenty of boutiques for winter sports gear and clothing. I also highly recommend the horse-drawn carriage tour…this place is just so magical, it’s like something out of a dream.
Logistics and Pricing:
Flight to Zurich: $786
Train to St. Moritz: Included
Kempinski St. Moritz: $941 per night (lift tickets only $55 per person for guests)
To get to the Kempinski Hotel from the Zurich airport, you absolutely must have the quintessential Swiss Alps experience of taking the train from Zurich into the mountains, to St. Moritz. This beautiful train ride is so iconic, I feel like everyone needs to do it once in their life. Staying at the Kempinski St. Moritz not only offers opulent accommodations, it includes a significant discount on lift tickets, making it cost-effective, while the hotel’s proximity to the gondola adds to the ease and convenience.
There you have it, my personal favorite ski destinations for top-tier adventure and relaxation – which one is your ideal ski vacation? Whatever your flavor, don’t waste any time, because these places are filling up fast!
